What to Watch on Valentine’s Day!!

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, what’s a better way to enjoy your Valentine’s than watching a good movie? Either you are by yourself or you have a Valentine, there are plenty of romantic movies and shows for you to enjoy.

The first one is the beloved Clueless, which is a movie that came out in 1995, and it is a modern retelling of Jane Austen’s Emma. The movie follows the high school girl Cher Horowitz, who’s got it all. She’s rich, socially successful, she is at the top of her classes, and she’s popular among her peers. However, after receiving an unexpected grade, Cher decides to have two of her teachers fall in love, in hopes of them relaxing their grading standards. After that experience, Cher becomes a self-proclaimed matchmaker, and she continues to help her peers get into romantic relationships. One of them involves the new kid Tai Fraiser. After meeting Tai, Cher and her best friend Dionne decide to give their new friend a makeover and help her find someone, which later results with Cher struggling to find love for her own. Not only is Clueless an interesting take on a Jane Austen novel, but it is also one of the most iconic movies for the coming-of-age and romance genre. It is definitely a must watch.

This isn’t necessarily a movie, but if you want to enjoy something sweet and heartwarming, then watch Your Lie in April. Your Lie in April is an anime that came out around 2016. Your Lie in April tells the story of a young pianist Kousei Arima, who struggles to play the piano after the tragic death of his mother. And because of his resentment towards the piano, Kousei decides to give up and quit playing. Two years after quitting, Kousei then meets a girl named Koari Miyazono, a bright and cheerful violinist, and since then, his life changes, as he makes a slow return to the music world. Your Lie in April is a short, sweet, and visually pleasing anime that can easily tug your heartstrings. You can watch Your Lie in April on Netflix.

We all know about Disney and their romantic classics, but one movie that doesn’t get enough attention is the movie Enchanted. Enchanted is a 2007 movie that follows a young lady Giselle, and after a stroll in her fairy tale-like world, she falls in love with the handsome Prince Edward. Naturally, she would live happily ever after, but suddenly, Giselle is banished from the world of fairy tales to modern day New York City. There, she meets the lawyer Robert, and it’s up to Giselle to find her happily ever after. What makes Enchanted so great is that not only is it a fun musical that has romantic themes and lovable characters, but it is also a self-parody of Disney’s animated movies, as there are multiple references to Disney’s past works.

If you are someone who isn’t a huge fan of the romance genre, then you should watch Isn’t It Romantic!! Isn’t It Romantic is a 2019 movie about a New York architect Natalie, who has a strong hatred towards romantic comedies because of the unrealistic cliches and her difficulty in finding love. However, one day, Natalie gets knocked unconscious by an attempted mugging, and once she wakes up, she finds herself living in a cliche romantic comedy. And the only way to get herself out of this atrocious reality is to live through the rom-com like the protagonist that she is. Isn’t It Romantic is a fun watch, even for people who don’t like romantic comedies, as it pokes fun at the exaggerated stereotypes of rom-coms.

So whether or not you have a Valentine this year, these are the romantic and heartwarming movies and a show that you can enjoy.
