New Year, New Program
Out with the old, in with the new. Saying goodbye to certificates of science and art, Hutchison brings a new experience to current freshman and sophomores called myExperience; a program designed to help students explore their interests through travel, internships, collaboration, and projects. Applicants have the opportunity to choose between STEM, Art and Design, Entrepreneurship, and Global Civic Engagement. Director of Signature Programs, Trey Wilson, has introduced the program to students and parents and it has already garnered excitement from all. This commitment would span from now until graduation, ending in celebration of everyone’s accomplishments. Girls in each cohort are given a budget and tasked with planning an entire trip to a city of their choice. From sophomore to senior year, participants will create a research project based on passion and knowledge. Mr. Wilson has given examples of these ranging from, “starting a business, a podcast, building a life size bridge, writing a research paper, and more” proving the possibilities to be endless.
The faculty leaders of myExperience have really emphasized the importance of this program on resumes and college applications. Each cohort will get a faculty mentor. For example Bonner Morgan, our Data Analyst and Test Prep Specialist, role is “to help guide, support, and advise each of the students in the STEM cohort. I’m also excited to learn alongside my cohort as we work together closely over the next few years.” she explained. Mrs. Morgan is excited to see where the program goes, “Students are the most important component of myExperience, and I’m excited to watch how their ideas and interests help shape the program and drive it forward – especially in our first year”. When asked about what she is most excited to see the girls accomplish she said, “I’m really looking forward to all of the incredible research projects that students will create as part of the program. There’s no limit to what a motivated Hutch student can accomplish!” myExperience is fully centered around driving girls to success, pursuing their passions, interacting with professionals, providing a glimpse into college and beyond.
