On a Monday morning, Hutchison’s Labry building was full of excitement, screams, and laughter. At 8 a.m., seniors nervously waited to meet their freshman. The reveal is the start to the week, where seniors grow close bonds with freshman and participate in several activities together.
During the days before freshman-senior week, seniors decorate their freshman’s locker with a variety of accessories including streamers, stickers, wrapping paper, pinatas, and gift baskets with candy and face masks. The seniors also told their freshman what to wear in a cleverly written riddle or poem.
The freshmen were on their annual school trip to Horseshoe Canyon Ranch, so when they came back to school and opened their lockers, they were surprised and shocked with the extremely bright and decorated commons. This year, the seniors went over the top with decorations because they were not able to have their lockers decorated when they were freshmen. Senior Hira Janjua said, “I think decorating the freshman commons was the best part of freshman-senior week, and because our seniors weren’t able to do so because of COVID-19, we made up for it by making sure our freshman’s lockers look outstanding.”
From The Founding Fathers, to Kentucky Fried Chicken, to The Lorax, the Hutchison Senior Class was ready for business. Freshman senior week is one the beginning openers of the school year that give opportunities for freshmen and seniors to bond. As freshmen step into the halls of Labry for the first time, it can be overwhelming as one approaches their first class.
Freshman senior week is able to give girls a time to come together not only to help freshmen guide their ways through the halls of Labry as new girls, but to also create and strengthen friendships throughout the school year. Whether it is a ride to school or dinner plans with their freshmen, the senior class is ready to tackle their last and final year at the hive!
