Have you ever tried Pilates? Pilates is the HOT new thing. Many people go at least 2-3 times a week. Being in a hot room makes your body use more oxygen in your blood, which results in looser muscles. One Pilates website says “Look Better, Feel Better, Live Better”. Which means once you start Pilates you will feel better and have a calmer life and day. Other people have said that it’s a good alternative workout. Margret Campbell ‘28 says, “It has been my favorite way to workout, I go in the morning before school.” She explains that going before school makes her refreshed and awake. Students favorite places to go for a good workout are HotWorks and Mind Body Haus. Both places have different vibes for different people. I personally go to Mind Body Haus and love it. During the summer me and my sister, Ella Woodmansee ’23 would go almost every day. We found that it put us in a better mood and we left with a clearer mind. I love having an instructor to teach me and help me learn about this new type of workout. For me this has been the most fun workout I have ever done compared to working out by myself. It feels more fun than hard and I love the feeling after the class. At Mind Body Haus you start with breathing exercises that you continue to use throughout the class. Then you start with arms or legs and then alternate. You can either do weights or no weights. Some classes are different from others, some have cold towels and some have a nice lavender spray to calm you down.
The vibe of the class: Pump up music, a fun instructor, and a friend to make you laugh. The music is the most important part. For me the class is fun if the music is fun. Fun music in my opinion is pop and good remixes of popular songs. A good exciting playlist with pump up music can make all the difference. It can motivate you to work harder and try your hardest in the workout class.
A fun instructor is good if you want to have a good time. People want an instructor who will pump you up and help you rather than one who will bring you down if you are doing the wrong thing.
And lastly a friend who can make you laugh. When my and my sister would go, I would always find myself laughing when her and I would lock eyes when something was hard. We would both be dripping sweat by the end of the class but we still had an awesome workout.
