Having a sister is very helpful in many ways. From teaching you life skills to being a built in best friend, sisters are always there for you. One thing a lot of younger sisters deal with, is having to watch their older sister from afar. As a younger sister, we wait until it is our turn to finally experience all of the fun things that our sisters do. After seeing my sister, Grace Bricken ‘25 go through high school, I couldn’t wait until it was my turn. I interviewed people who all have or have had older sisters who went to Hutchison, and I asked them what it was like to watch their older sister go through high school, and then finally being able to experience it themselves.
Lucy Unglesby ‘28 just started her freshman year at Hutchison after graduating from Grace Saint Luke’s. She said that seeing her sister, Virginia Unglesby ‘25, at Sting Fling and football games, and also watching her thrive in her schoolwork was so exciting. Lucy says, “I was so excited for it to finally be my turn to start high school.” I also interviewed senior Anna Catherine Brickey ‘25 to get a different point of view. I asked her to explain the biggest difference between her and her sister, Caroline Brickey ‘22, high school experience. Anna Catherine said that her sister was in high school during covid. Anna Catherine says, “Due to this, Caroline only spent her freshman year and senior year on campus.” She says, “Having all 4 years, unlike my sister, made me realize I have taken some for granted.” Anna Catherine learned that every moment is a special moment and that you shouldn’t take it for granted.
No matter how many awards or social events a younger sister lives through, we will always be waiting for the next big thing that our sisters have accomplished. From all of the story times and scrolling through photos with our sisters, the younger siblings will always just be waiting for their turn.
