Soccer’s Way to State
Hutchison’s varsity soccer team defeated St. Mary’s with a 2-0 win to secure their spot to state. The nineteen players on the team are all so excited to continue their season in the playoffs in Chattanooga, TN. Their record is 7-3-1 hoping to add on a win to it.
Through the tough summer trainings of running and conditioning to the joyous victories versus their biggest rivalries, the team has gone through a lot together and fostered so many friendships. Whether it is post-game dinners to celebrate or laughing their way through the ACL warm up, everyone is so excited to be with one another.
It is a long-standing soccer tradition for the juniors to write the seniors poems to present on their senior night. Junior Kate Wunderlich wrote all six poems for the seniors: Alex Mcvean, Molly Reeves Gooche, Lily Rodenhiser, Wylly Willmott, Ella Luter, and Kristen Nunn. Kate’s words sweetly thanked the seniors for their dedication and contributions to the team and sent them off well. Wylly thinks, “it was so adorable because it’s super heartfelt and personal for each person” and Ella Luter describes it as “such a special moment.”
The team’s biggest goal is to come out of this game with a win and ultimately win state. Sophomore Kate Anderson says, “We have all worked so hard to achieve this goal, so it would be really cool to accomplish it.” Hutchison has never won state, so the team “really wants to make history,” says sophomore Eva Mollerup. Coach Browne reassures that “regardless of the end result, [he is] really proud of the team and all what they have done this season.”
