Over fall break, many students anticipated the release of the first half of the fourth season of the hit series Outer Banks. The first five episodes of this season were full of new characters, plot twists, and ideas. With the first half of the season already released, fans are getting excited for the second half to come out on November 7.
The show, which follows a group of teen kids, is known for its mystery and treasure-hunting aspects. Each season of the show is about a different treasure and includes other people. “Season 3 was my favorite because of the El Dorado storyline, and the characters that were brought in,” says Georgia Shelby (9).
All of the seasons so far have felt somehow connected, but one thing’s for sure: this season is different. The plot, which includes a new place called Goat Island, is not similar to that of the first few seasons. While many think that this change is good, some think that it is taking away from the overall story, and might mean that Outer Banks could be ending soon. “I feel like there might be one more, but it’s coming to an end,” says Maggie Mavar (9).
This season not only introduced a whole new plot but also new characters. Major new characters included Chandler Groff, who many think could be the antagonist of the season, Hollis Robinson, a realtor on the island, and Lightner, a stranger who causes problems for the pogues. While these new characters are certainly important to the story, the original characters are unbeatable in the eyes of the students. “My favorite character is Sarah because she is funny and relatable. None of the new characters have that,” says Rowan White (9).
So far, the season is pretty well-liked, but there are still some things that fans have been wanting to see. The main character that people want to see? Rafe Cameron. Rafe’s character development from the first season to the fourth has caught the attention of many, and people are curious as to what it will lead to. Some people think he will keep the same, mean personality as a kook, but some think that he might change sides. Georgia Shelby (9) says, “I want to see Rafe become a pogue. I feel like it would change the season in a great way.”
The season is now complete, and fans all around are shocked at the ending. JJ’s death changed the trajectory of the show. With one of the pogues and main characters gone, many are left to wonder how season 5 will go. Rowan White (9) says, “While I’m sad that JJ’s gone, I think that it opens up doors for the show and for new characters to come in.”
