Thanksgiving is a day of community, family, and happiness. It is a time to reflect on the different things in life to be thankful for. There are many great aspects to this holiday, but one that sticks out the most is the variety of food. There are so many different dishes to choose from as your favorite, and these choices can also tie back to your loved ones. Amelia Jayce Stover ’29 said her favorite Thanksgiving dish is “[her] dad’s sweet potato casserole.” It was very sweet that she specified her favorite was her dad’s dish, because it captures the true meaning of Thanksgiving: appreciating all the things you have in your life. Another person who mentioned a dish she appreciates is Savannah Fatolahi ’29, and the turkey that her cousin makes. She explained this by saying, “I love the turkey at Thanksgiving because my cousin makes it and it is really good and he does a good job.” By mentioning the dish her cousin makes, she shows her appreciation not just for the food but also for him. Sometimes we all need to take a step back and remember all of the things there are to be grateful for, no matter the situation. This holiday is just another reminder for us to reflect on the people and things we should never take for granted. When you are enjoying your favorite dish this Thanksgiving, think about your favorite people in your life as well.
