Around the Hive there has been some buzzing on campus. Something big, something yellow and black, but most importantly something full of Hutchison spirit. This year, the Hutchison Athletic Department introduces the biggest accommodation to their department yet: standing at 150 pounds, our beloved mascot Sting.
Hutchison’s Athletic Director Caroline Schaefer explains the reasoning behind purchasing the mascot and says, “We are trying to boost the game day experience, not just for the athletes but for the spectators as well.”
For the upcoming teams of the fall and spring seasons, the Athletic Department plans on holding auditions for the Swarm team of six students and having Sting at every home game.
Sadie Rosenblum (11), a multi-athlete who plays on the Hutchison varsity soccer and lacrosse teams, is just one of many students who wants to be Sting. Sadie claims to have a great amount of Hutchison pride as well as love for the sports she plays and watches at Hutchison.
